Unbeatable Rock Climbing

There’s no doubt about it; Chattanooga is a rock climbing paradise.  Not only can climbers enjoy the challenge year-round, but Chattanooga is covered in what is known as Southern Sandstone.  This incredible rock type provides a unique variation of climbs in a relatively small geographical area.  All together, there are hundreds of climbing routes available in a 45 minute radius of Chattanooga.  While most areas only excel in one type of rock climbing, Chattanooga has it all; bouldering, traditional and sport climbing.  It’s no wonder climbers from all over the country have Chattanooga at the top of their lists.

Chattanooga Rock Climbing

Though there are a great variety of places to go rock climbing in Chattanooga, here are five of the most popular:

Stone Fort

Stone Fort is one of the best bouldering fields in the entire country.  It’s a must on any rock climber’s list. Some of the not-to-miss classics include Super Mario (V4), The Sternum (V5), and Tennessee Thong (V7).

Sunset Rock

Sunset Rock is easily considered the “crown jewel” of southern sandstone climbing.  Sunset Rock, a long, linear cliff line, is conveniently located along the north side of Lookout Mountain. Much of this climb remains shaded during the heat of the day, making it fairly comfortable in the hot summer sun.

Rocktown

Rocktown is a bit farther away and requires some hiking to get to the best climbing.  Once there, Rocktown boasts more than 500 established problems, including Soap on a Rope (V4) and Golden Harvest (V10).

Foster Falls

Foster Falls is part of South Cumberland State Park.  It features some of the most popular year-round sport climbing in the area. There are a total of 179 routes at a wide variety of grades and heights, including vertical to overhanging sandstone.  What makes this location even better is the beautiful view of 80-foot tall Foster Falls during the approach.  Splashing around in the falls is also a great way to cool off post-climb.

Tennessee Wall

The Tennessee Wall is a fiery orange sandstone cliff bordering the Tennessee River.  Known locally as T-Wall, this two mile long climbing wall is famous for its diverse features including cracks, arêtes, dihedrals, and overhanging walls and roofs.

After what is sure to be a long and exhausting day scaling steep rock faces, there’s no doubt you’ll be looking forward to sinking into the luxurious atmosphere found at our Bed and Breakfast.  Book your stay with us today, and get ready for the rock climbing adventure of your life.
